Ceiling Fan Wall Switch Wiring

This wiring diagram illustrates the connections for a ceiling fan and light with two switches a speed controller for the fan and a dimmer for the lights. Connect the black wire from the ceiling to the black wire from the fan. From the switches 3 wire cable runs to the ceiling outlet box. Twist the copper ends of the black and blue wires together like you did with the previous wires.

Cap the blue wire coming from the fan by itself with a wire nut as it is not needed when wiring for a single wall switch. Join the three wires with an appropriately sized wire connector. This will allow you to control your fan and lights with a single switch. 1 flip off the circuit breaker controlling the wall switch in the room.

Connect the ground wire from the ceiling fan often this is connected to the fan s hanger bracket to the circuit ground wire and to the electrical box if it is metal using a pigtail wire to connect to the box. Connect the black and blue wires coming out of your fan. Connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan. For ceiling fan speed controlling we use mostly two methods in which on is by using speed control using three or five wire capacitor.

Secure the pigtail wire to the box with a grounding screw or clip. The red wire is typically connected to the wall switch that controls the light which in turn is connected to the blue wire of the ceiling fan. The fan control switch usually connects to the black wire and the light kit switch to the red wire of the 3 way cable. Connect the black and blue wires in your fan if you only have 1 switch.

A fan speed switch is typically connected to the black wire at the wall switch box and the black wire of the ceiling fan. Connect the green copper wires together. And other one is using a dimmer switch from which we can control the rpm revolutions per minute of ceiling fan or other fan motor. Wiring ceiling fan and light with one switch this method allows you to turn on the fan and the light from one single wall switch cutting out the necessity to use the pull chain every time you want to adjust the fan.

Connect white wires together. The source is at the switches and the input of each is spliced to the black source wire with a wire nut. Switched lines and neutral connect to a 3 wire cable that travels to the light fan outlet box in the ceiling.
